Articulation disorders effects how children produce speech sounds, but it often times also results in struggles with distinguishing speech sounds. Auditory discrimination is the ability to distinguish or recognize the differences between sounds. Auditory discrimination is an extremely important in step in articulation therapy and is also crucial for language and reading development skills.
This is why in our app “Articulation with The Speech Wizard” we included fun auditory discrimination activities. Users are challenged to identify single sounds and then asked to identify where they hear their target sound in words. This is such an important step in the remediation process of articulation. We ultimately want every child to be good listeners recognizing all the individual speech sounds to then be prepared to begin producing their target speech sounds. This simple but crucial step is often skipped over but should be addressed first for the best success with articulation therapy! We are sure you’ll find these activities beneficial in our first app “Articulation with The Speech Wizard” launching this month!
